Optimizing Oilseeds Before Extraction
Effective pretreatment is the foundation of any successful oil milling operation. Properly prepared oilseeds yield more oil, protect downstream equipment, and produce higher-quality meal.
Impurity Removal
Raw oilseeds contain 1%-6% impurities including stones, stems, leaves, metal fragments and dirt. Vibrating screens, magnetic separators and destoners remove these contaminants, protecting crushers and presses from premature wear while improving final oil quality.
Particle Size Optimization
Crushing and flaking reduce oilseeds to uniform thin flakes (0.25-0.4mm thickness), maximizing surface area exposure and rupturing cell walls. This mechanical preparation dramatically improves solvent penetration and oil extraction efficiency in downstream processing.
Conditioning & Heat Treatment
Precise temperature and moisture conditioning, including puffing for high-oil materials like rapeseed and corn germ, modifies the physical structure of oilseeds. This increases oil yield by 2-3%, reduces energy consumption, and improves meal quality for animal feed applications.
