Sunflower Oil Production Steps
From sunflower seeds to refined, cold-test stable oil.

1. Cleaning
Sunflower seeds pass through magnetic separators, vibrating screens, and aspirators to remove dust, stones, metal fragments, and empty seeds before processing.
2. Hulling
Seeds are dehulled using impact hullers. Hulls (22-28% of seed weight) are separated via aspiration and can be used as biomass fuel or animal feed roughage.
3. Pre-pressing
Hulled seeds are conditioned and fed into screw presses. Pre-pressing extracts 70-75% of available oil at moderate pressure, producing a high-quality crude oil and a cake with 15-18% residual oil.
4. Solvent Extraction
Pre-pressed cake is extracted with hexane to recover residual oil. Counter-current extractor design achieves less than 1% residual oil in meal, maximizing overall yield.
5. Dewaxing (Winterization)
Crude sunflower oil contains 0.05-0.3% waxes. Oil is slowly chilled to 5-8 deg C in crystallizers to precipitate wax crystals, then filtered through cold filter presses — essential for clear oil that remains stable in refrigerated conditions.
6. Refining
Degumming removes phospholipids, alkali neutralization removes free fatty acids, bleaching adsorbs pigments and residual soaps, and high-vacuum deodorization removes volatile compounds for a stable, odorless oil.

What capacity of sunflower line do you deliver?
From 30 TPD to 1,000 TPD. Most Black Sea and Argentine clients are in the 200-1,000 TPD range.
With or without dehulling?
Without dehulling is simpler and lower-cost, and the meal is acceptable for feed. With dehulling, you get a higher-protein (38-40%) meal and a slightly lower crude oil yield due to the hull absorption. Most modern plants dehull.
Physical or chemical refining?
Physical (steam) refining is preferred for sunflower because the crude oil is naturally low in phosphorus and waxes. The lower process loss (1-2% vs 4-6% chemical) is a decisive advantage on large lines.
What's special about high-oleic sunflower?
High-oleic varieties (oleic acid ≥80%) need gentler processing to preserve the oleic acid. Our refining line keeps deodorization below 220°C, which preserves the high-oleic profile.
What is the oil yield from sunflower seed?
40-48% depending on the variety. Standard sunflower has ~42%; high-oleic varieties can have 45%+. Total recovery with pre-press + solvent: 96-98%.
Do you deliver winterization for cold climates?
Yes. Winterization brings the cloud point of the oil to -5°C, allowing it to stay clear in refrigerated storage (popular in Russia, Ukraine, and northern Europe).
What capacity should I choose for a Sunflower Oil Production Line?
Capacity depends on how much raw material you can secure year-round, not on how much you would like to sell. Tell us your daily or monthly feedstock availability, the local season pattern and your target market, and we size the line so it runs near full load most of the year instead of sitting idle between harvests.
Can the line be expanded later?
Yes. We build these plants in modules, so you can start with pressing and add solvent extraction, refining or fractionation once volume justifies it. We reserve the floor space, utility capacity and pipe racks for the later stages during the first installation, which costs very little at the time and saves a rebuild later.
Do you handle installation and training for a Sunflower Oil Production Line?
We deliver on an EPC turnkey basis. Our engineers supervise foundation setting, erection and commissioning on site, run the line through performance testing, and train your operators and maintenance crew before handover. You receive a running plant, not a crate of parts.
What about spare parts and after-sales support?
Wear parts for the presses, filters and pumps are stocked as standard and ship with the plant as a recommended spares package. After commissioning our team stays reachable for remote troubleshooting, and we can place a service engineer on site for major overhauls.
