Batch Type Solvent Extraction Equipment

Versatile Batch Solvent Extractor for Specialty and Small-Capacity Oil Production

The Huatai Batch Type Solvent Extraction Equipment is purpose-built for oil mills that require flexibility in processing multiple seed types, smaller throughput capacities, or complete batch traceability for specialty oil production. Unlike continuous extractors, each batch cycle is independently controlled — allowing operators to adjust solvent ratio, immersion time, and wash cycles for each individual seed type. Available in configurations of 2 to 8 sealed extractors operating in parallel or staggered sequence, the system achieves residual oil levels below 1.5% with solvent consumption under 5 kg per ton of material processed. This makes batch extraction the preferred choice for pilot plants, toll milling operations, and producers of premium specialty oils where process documentation and product traceability are essential.

Batch Extraction Working Principle

Solvent immersion and sequential washing in sealed batch vessels extract oil from pre-treated oilseed material with full cycle traceability.

1

Material Loading

Pre-treated oilseed material is loaded into the sealed batch extractor through the top charging port. The vessel is then sealed and purged with nitrogen to create an inert atmosphere before solvent introduction.

2

Solvent Immersion & Washing

Food-grade hexane solvent is introduced into the extractor, fully immersing the material bed. Agitation or recirculation ensures uniform solvent contact throughout the batch. The solvent dissolves oil from the seed matrix, forming miscella (oil-solvent mixture).

3

Miscella Drainage

After the designated immersion period, the concentrated miscella is drained from the bottom of the vessel and collected for evaporation. The miscella typically contains 20-30% oil depending on the seed type and extraction parameters.

4

Multiple Wash Cycles

Fresh solvent is re-introduced for additional wash cycles (typically 3-5 cycles) to progressively extract remaining oil. Each subsequent wash uses leaner miscella, ensuring maximum oil recovery down to the target residual oil level.

5

Meal Discharge & Solvent Recovery

The de-fatted meal is discharged from the vessel and conveyed to the desolventizer for residual solvent removal. Vapors from the extractor are condensed and recovered, with the recycled solvent returned to the solvent tank for the next batch cycle.

Why Choose Huatai Batch Extraction

Flexible Batch Control

Each batch cycle can be individually configured with different solvent ratios, immersion times, and wash cycle counts. This level of control is essential for specialty oil production where different seeds require distinct extraction parameters, and for toll milling operations that must document every batch for quality assurance.

Multi-Seed Capability

The sealed vessel design allows thorough cleaning between batches, enabling sequential processing of different seed types without cross-contamination. This makes batch extraction the ideal solution for multi-seed processors who handle seasonal raw material changes or produce a variety of specialty oils on the same equipment.

Lower Capital Investment

Compared to continuous extraction systems of equivalent throughput, batch extraction equipment requires significantly lower capital investment. The modular design allows processors to start with 2 extractors and expand by adding units as production demand grows, making it an accessible entry point for new oil milling ventures.

Ideal Applications for Batch Extraction

Batch extraction excels where flexibility, traceability, and smaller scale are paramount.

Specialty Oils

Premium oils such as cold-pressed sesame, roasted peanut, and pumpkin seed oil demand full batch traceability and precise process control to maintain consistent flavor profiles and quality certifications.

Pilot Plants

Research and development facilities use batch extractors to test extraction parameters on new seed varieties, develop process recipes, and produce sample quantities before committing to full-scale continuous production.

Small-Capacity Operations

For oil mills processing below 50 TPD, batch extraction provides the most cost-effective route to solvent-grade oil recovery without the overhead of continuous extraction infrastructure.

Multi-Seed Processors

Toll milling and contract processing operations that handle frequent seed changeovers benefit from batch extraction's quick changeover times and thorough cleaning between product runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose batch vs continuous extraction?

Batch extraction is ideal for capacities below 50 TPD, multi-seed operations requiring frequent changeover, or specialty oils where process traceability is important. Continuous extraction is more efficient for high-volume single-seed operations above 50 TPD, where uninterrupted production and minimal solvent consumption are priorities.

What is the residual oil level?

Batch extraction achieves residual oil below 1.5%, slightly higher than continuous extraction due to shorter contact time, but still far superior to mechanical pressing which typically leaves 6-8% residual oil. The difference represents significant additional oil revenue compared to pressing alone.

Can batch extractors handle different seeds in sequence?

Yes, each batch cycle can process a different seed type with thorough cleaning between batches, making it ideal for toll milling and multi-seed operations. The sealed vessel design ensures complete solvent drainage and the stainless steel contact surfaces allow effective cleaning with minimal downtime between product changeovers.
