Under roughly 30 TPD this choice shapes everything downstream. Pick wrong and you either babysit a batch machine all shift, or run a continuous press your supply cannot feed.

What each machine actually does

A screw press is continuous. Seed enters one end, an auger hauls it through a cage, pressure builds, oil seeps through the bars, cake exits the other. It runs as long as you feed it.

A hydraulic press works in batches. Load prepared meal into a cage, compress, hold, release, strip the cake, start over. Cycles, not a stream.

Residual oil: the honest picture

There's no tidy tonnage threshold, and we won't invent one. Two buyers at identical capacity reach opposite answers and both be right. Steady year-round supply, a market where every kilogram counts, and people willing to learn solvent handling push you towards extraction.
